Pain in ribs : Pain with activity raises the concern that this is a loss of oxygen supply to the heart. But it can be muscular, rib pain.  More information is needed.

i have shoulder blade,arm pain and numbness in my hand, pain in my ribs area around the chest and breast bone for over 12 months. mri showed no trapped nerves, concerned i have a pancoast tumour would this have shown in my cervical mri and spine mri?

Lung tumor ?: The MRI of the shoulder and upper chest should have shown a tumor at the lung apex, so if not diagnosed by the MRI, it is unlikely for your pain to be of pulmonary origin.  Get a referral from your primary care doctor for an orthopedic physician to find the cause of the pain described.

Usually not: Common cause of chest pain is costochondritis/ tietz syndrome which is an inflammation of cartilage and bone junction of the ribs with the sternal plate. This causes pain in the breast bone.

Costochondritis: Inflammation or arthritis where the ribs attach to the sternum.

Unlikely: In a patient your age with no family history and a non-smoker, cardiac causes are less likely. Lung issues (such as a collapsed lung) can present with similar symptoms especially if you are short of breath. If you're breathing comfortably, and the symptoms are similar to previous panic attacks, then you could try treating as a panic attack and seek care if that is not helpful.

Reflux: If you are describing heart burn type symptoms, then you have reflux. This can be treated with antacids, tagamet, (cimetidine) etc. If refractory would see a gastroenterologist.

Accepted Answer

Contusion: Most likely the boy has a contusion, or bruised sternum.  Pain management with Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen will help.  If he is having any difficulty breathing, he should be evaluated.

Need evaluation!: This could be any number of things: pulmonary embolism, pleurisy, costochondritis, pneumonia?? But it is clear you need evaluation. You should go to an Urgent Care Center or Emergency Room now.  I'm not sure what the feeling cold is, but perhaps the chills part of fever and chills. Best not to drive yourself ... find someone to take you NOW!  Good wishes:)

sounds most likely: As  shingles, if there is an associated rash on rt side of the body. Otherwise it seems that you might have a spinal lesion causing nerves to be impinged.
Without the benefit of a proper history and examination, its difficult to provide you with any reasonable answers, i would suggest you see your pcp to be investigated properly.

Could be many: Things. Could be chest wall pain because of rib problem, could be chest pain because of heart, lung, esophagus or stomach problem. See your doctor for a physical exam.
