Urgent: If you are having a loss of voice you need an urgent evaluation.  The nerves to the  vocal cords are not direct connections from the spine so isolated dysfunction there is not likely to be due to a spine issue.

Contains the nerves: Which go to your muscles of your body
and also to the sensory receptors in your body.  You have a complex nervous system which has sympathetic, parasympathetic and yoru sensation and motor control.  These neurons and axons are in the spinal cord and control your body.  It transmits the electrical impulses which control yoru bodies functions and muscles.

can you tell me the function of the dorsal root of the spinal nerve?

Lets you feel things: The nerve root has 2 "ganglions".  The dorsal root is on the posterior side of the nerve (closer to your back) and carries the fibers that allow you to feel things in your extremities (for example: pain, temperature, vibration).  The information is transmitted to your brain so you understand what type of sensation is being encountered by the extremity.

Atrophy or wasting.: When a muscle is denervated, it atrophies or 'shrivels up'. This is why patients who had polio have small paralyzed limbs in the effected distribution.

Difficult to repair.: You don't state which drugs in particular caused the damage, or what the nature of the damage is.  So because the question is so general, so must be the answer. In general nerve tissue does not regenerate or repair itself, except for limited nerve plasticity, mostly in children younger patients and there is no known medical intervention. You can't: "repair" it by anything you do.  Some people might advise making sure you have adequate b vitamins, particularly thiamine, which is necessary for good nerve function, so you might take a therapeutic multivit, but I am unaware of any studies that would indicate they work. Nerves may heal over time. If the nerve was actually physically damaged, you could see a neurosurgeon for advice. Stop using.

even after the spinal cord is severed in the upper cervical region, the spinal cord performs many highly regulated functions. is that correct?

Accepted Answer

: Not correct, especially if a C-zero level is encountered.  Below this level no respiratory function occurs, and full paralysis and numbness with urinary and bowel dysfunction occurs.  However, no reason to assume cranial nerve function does not continue.

what would cause no spinal fluid to be seen in one auditory canal on mri but  seen on the other.  mentioned soft tissue density on that side. ?

? Mass vs. Vol Ave.: Depending on the MRI protocol, it is possible there is slight angling of the image, and one side is seen well while the other is not as clearly seen.  This is called volume averaging. It is more likely on a routine head mri, and unlikely on a dedicated MRI of the internal auditory canals.

It is also possible there is soft tissue is in one auditory canal.  Was there enhancement after contrast?

woke up from spinal surgery in sept with bad heart. can't breathe and keep passing out. heart too fast. been on meds. can't function need help. ?

Work up: You would certainly need a complete workup including likely a echocardiogram, EKG, holter monitoring to yield the diagnosis and appropriate treatment.  In select cases of cardiac arrythmia unresponsive to medications, ablation therapy may be indicated.

could endometriosis recur as a cervical spinal  mass  firm, palpable, non painful & slowly grows? cant do mri, but on ct seems to be normal tissue.

Accepted Answer

Unlikely: Its possible, but that would be extraordinarily rare. I've never heard of such a thing.
