Pilates or aqua exer: Pilates puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, and developing a strong core or center, and improving coordination and balance. Or  aquatic exercise. We are about 80% lighter standing in chest deep water due to buoyancy. This will make exercising easier.  If you have a spinal cord injury, check with your doctor first.

Depends: It depends on the nature of the flattening. If there is a mass flattening the spinal cord, a procedure may be required to remove the mass effect.

No: Lymphatic drainage for the lower back is around the side to the groin, or internally to nodes at the back of the abdomen. Also the spine joins the pelvis at the sacrum. The spinal cord is inside the vertebrae, can't be felt, and ends a little higher up the back. Your lumps might be fibromas or something else. Have your primary care provider examine them.

Need to evaluate: This should not have persisted so long.  Your description is consistent with nerve compression in your lower back causing a lumbosacral radiculopathy.  Whether this is due to aberrant blood vessels or a disc herniation needs to be discovered.  An MRI and an EMG should help. See your doctor and get this answered and treated.

Not very: The spinal cord is roughly 18 inches long and somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 inch in diameter.  It extends from the foramen magnum (the giant hole at the base of the skull) to approximately the 10th-12th thoracic vertebrae.
