i have a very oily skin. by early afternoon my skin looks like a mirror! oil control lotions seems fairly ineffective. is medication my only solution?

Oily skin: Sometimes when we have oily skin, our first inclination is to wash it with  cleanser more frequently.  But that often serves to dry out the skin more frequently, which causes your skin to become more oily.  It becomes a hard to break cycle.  If you think you're getting acne from the excessive oil, it might be good to at least talk with your doc about options - it doesn't mean you have to use them.

advice on clearing acne and blackheads? specific brand of medication or recommended lotions and stuff? is proactive effective?

Accepted Answer

Depends on your skin: Acne treatment is long term and needs to be changed and adjusted based on response from the patient. Proactive can be effective in some patients, as Retin A (tretinoin) or Benzoyl Peroxide, in different strengths. You should get your pediatrician first start you on a regimen, which you should follow religiously for 3 months before getting it adjusted as needed. Feel better??

i have an injury on my right hand shoulder is very painful, i went to see a gp 4weeks ago they gave me an injection and pain medication which i have been taking and also using deepfreeze lotion but the pain is stil there?

Shoulder pain : In order to understand shoulder pain, a good physical examination is needed. What can this be? The shoulder has several reasons for pain, nerve, tendon, joint, bone. In most cases (not all) people benefit from physical therapy.

i am very fair skin and tanned in sun for first time in years with baby lotion. i now have tiny red spots (not raised or bumps)on my upper and lower legs . i use risnia, exsira and trazadone medications. ?

Allergy: This is likely an allergic reaction from sun exposure.  Should disappear on its own.

Accepted Answer

Depends on the type: Using a "non-comedogenic" facial lotion or moisturizer will usually not give you problems with acne breakouts.  However, everyone's skin is a bit different so you will not know until you give it a try.  Also, use "oil free" facial moisturizers as this will also help.

is there any medication/lotion that is good for getting rid of tiny scars from a surgery?

It depends: If your scars are relatively new (within 6 months), there is evidence that application of silicone sheeting or gel to the scar can help it fade.  Silicone is more effective than vitamin e, aloe, etc.   More recently, it has been shown that keeping a scar covered with paper tape also helps it fade.  Photo is from patient who used silicone sheeting for 3 months.

Clindamycin: I would let the antibiiotic enter the skin first before putting on an antiinflammatory if you need them both

No: No, topical medications should not affect mental health, other than improve it when symptoms they are treating are improving.

my 4 year old has chicken pox since last thursday.  been applying calamine lotion but it doesn't seem to be working.  should i take him to a gp. he hasn't missed any immunization medications.

Maybe: I find calamine excessively drying &amp; stinky &amp; never use it. It takes 5-7 days for most CP lesions to dry regardless of what you use. The primary goal is to keep the sites clean &amp; observe for possible invasion/infection by simple skin germs. As long as the sites are free from localized infection I would manage this at home. A visit just exposes more kids/adults to active disease.
