See below: I would recommend an over the counter decongestant either phenylephrine nose drops or spray or pseudephedrine tablets (the ones locked up behind the counter). Use them for only 3-4 days to avoid rebound phenomenon.  You could also take tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain relief and throat lozenges for sore throat.  Keep yourself well hydrated and you should get better soon.

Remedies: For sore throat – gargle with warm salt water (1/2 tsp salt in 8 oz of water). * for congestion – saline nose drops or a netti pot. *for anti-inflammatory effect ; mobilizing mucus- homemade chicken noodle soup.**for hydration- lots of water. Try clear broth. * add honey ; a small amt. Of lemon juice to chamomile tea. Add honey ; a small amt. Of lemon juice to chamomile tea.

Various: Dry air and mouth breathing because the nose is stuffy can make the throat sore in the morning. Use a clean humidifier or vaporizer to add moisture to the air in your bedroom. Keep a water bottle near your bed to drink during the night. Rinse your nose with saline before bed and in the morning as needed. If this is throughout the year, consider allergens in your room.

Don't worry: Although we often think of green as meaning we have something really bad, it just means that there are many white cells  present. You can have green mucous even with a cold, esp. First thing in the morning or if you haven't blown your nose in awhile. Unless things are worsening, give it time.

Wash your hands: Keep breastfeeding - remember she is getting antibodies from you through the breastmilk.  the best way to avoid transmitting your illness is good handwashing before taking care of her.  Feel better.

Pleurisy: The cold virus gave you a pleurisy. A condition called pleuritis or pleurisy is inflammation of the pleura (lining between the lung and the chest wall).  It can be quite painful and worse with taking deep breaths as the lining rubs together. Anti-inflammatory medication can help relieve the pain, but sometimes it takes a while.

Consider: Taking a decongestant.  For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes –  see physician ; get a strep throat test/ culture. If you have strep throat, antibiotic therapy is imperative to prevent future complications. Consider tylenol (acetaminophen) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle several times a day. Or gargle with aloe.
