Possibly: It is better to see a dr. And get the throat swabbed to determine what kind of bacteria or other infection, if at all, you are suffering.  To take the antibiotic may do nothing, help or mask what you really have.  Don't take chances.

Doctors usually have a rapid 5-minute strep swab test in clinics.

The most: common cause of a sore throat along with a fever is a VIRAL upper respiratory illness which will NOT respond to an antibiotic. If you have a bacterial infection of your throat (Streptococcal or Pneumococcal) an antibiotic may be effective! It is best NOT to use antibiotics without a health professional's input!

Not a bacterial infx: Your symptoms are likely caused by a fungus or virus- that is why antibiotics aren't working. Depending on your geoprahic location, example of other  diagnoses includes influenza a (virus)  infection and pulmonary coccidioidomycosis (valley fever).

: With a throat infection, there is typically swelling of the tonsils and of the paratonsilar lymph nodes. the "something" you feel near your adam's apple may be either of these. The swelling may be most noticeable when you try to swallow or talk, depending on the extent of the inflammation.
