Sore throat: There are multiple causes of sore throat but without further history and physical exam it is essentially impossible to have it diagnosed correctly. If smoking is not the cause of it, it is definitely a contributor. I advise you to see a local doc to go over that with him.

May not be related: You may have URI  ( upper rest. tract infection )  see you doctor get examined , may Rx antibiotics . Temp will come down .Don't worry

Could be: Your neck can become tender during an upper respiratory infection.  However, if the swelling is not going away or if you have trouble breathing or choking, you should see your doctor right away for an examination.  It could be something more serious, especially if it isn't going away.

Neck pain: The Adams apple is cartilage, but surrounding it in the same area is the thyroid.  A sore/tender thyroid maay be thyroiditis.  Thyroiditis can make you hyperthyroid transiently, but usually gets better on its own.  Talk to your doctor.

my throat is very sore. its lower down so i think in my trachea... feels like there is a spiked metal ball in there. my tonsils are not swollen. just above where the adams apple is, more to the left side. (im a female, 27 years old.)?

Dr. can check throat: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat). A couple days of throat lozenges and acetaminophen can decrease pain.

2 days ago i felt like something in my throat/neck was loose and every time i swallowed it would be like cartilage rubbing together. then yesterday the whole adams apple area was sore to touch. saw dr,he said he didnt know. any ideas what it is?
