i think i have a swollen lymph node in my neck. it is really sore. i haven't really felt sick. it is really sore. how do i treat it?

Swollen gland: Likely what you are describing is something called lymphadenopathy, which is swelling and inflammation of lymph nodes.  This can lead to pain and can be aggravated by movement, depending on the location of the swollen lymph node.  Generally speaking, most lymphadenopathy is caused by infectious processes. This could be viral or bacterial.  If it is bacterial, the antibiotics can help.Try advil (ibuprofen) too.

Infections: Look over your whole arm - checking for breaks in the skin.  Sometimes even the smallest breaks in the skin can lead to infections or swollen lymph nodes.

i have an enlarged axillary lymph node under my left arm. it is visibly noticeable and quite sore. i've often had enlarged lymph nodes while i was sick bit i feel fine and this one is quite a bit larger than usual.

Lymphadenopathy: Studies show that approximately 1.1% of primary care patients presenting with lymphadenopathy have malignancy. The axillary lymph nodes drain the breast, chest wall and upper extremity. Lymphadenopathy that is persistent &gt;3 weeks should be investigated. Most causes of axillary lymphadenopathy are reactive in nature. A full medical history and physical exam should be performed. See your MD.

Probably ok.: A node that swells with an obvious infection usually is benign.  It may stay swollen forever, but most reactive nodes are less than 1 cm in diameter.  Progressive enlargement over 1 cm, associated symptoms like redness, tenderness, fever, chills or night sweats would call for evaluation.  See your healthcare provider if concerned.

i have a tender spot and lump on the side of my neck the size of a dime. not visible on skin. i was sick last week. should i be worried? is it an inflamed lymph node?

No. Probably.: In answer to your questions, 1) do not worry, that only makes the situation worse and is bad for your health!
2) Probably is an inflamed lymph node if you had an infection that coincides with it.  Once you have recovered from your infection the lymph node should become painless and slowly shrink till you can no longer feel it.  If it doesn't go away, I would see your Dr to have it examined.

i have cellulitis on my inner thigh, been on keflex for 24 hrs. the lymph node in my groin became enlarged and tender. is this a bad sign?

Expected: Lymph nodes are check points that limit spread of infection, will become less painful and shrink in size later when infection is eradicated, keep taking the antibiotic as prescribed, if no improvement call/see your doctor, good luck

Possible lymph node: Yes it could be a lymph node that is swollen or even a small sebaceous cyst.  If it does not resolve on its own you should get it checked out.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Well, that's it.  Yes.  Let it heal.  It is due to an underlying infection, and when  that infection is treated or resolves on its own, the lymph node will gradually shrink back to normal as well.
