my tongue frenulum is red and sore, what are some possible causes?

Local irritation?: It might just be irritated from some local irritation.  However, without being able to see it, we can't be sure.  Giving you a list of possibilities won't really help you in any meaningful way.  Either wait it out for a few days and see if it goes away, or see a dentist to see if it is anything more serious than that.

i have pain under my tongue the right side of the frenulum not the tongue itself but part underneath. it regularly pains if i press it and feels sore?

See Dentist: See your dentist or an oral surgeon. It could possibly be a sublingual or submandibular infection, blockage of salivary gland/glands or a mucocele.

the frenulum of my tongue is white (almost looks like a white rope) and sore when i stretch it. my gums have also been sore recently. what could it be?

Sore Gums and Frenum: Good afternoon;
    In many instances the frenulum of a person's tongue has a whitish look. Could have suffered some tongue trama, oral sexual activities, fibrous hyperplasia or even an aphthous stomatitis(cold sore).
  Sore gums may have a variety of causes; poor oral hygiene, stress, improper home care technique  and even early periodontal disease. Consider contacting a dentist or periodontist.

i've got a white spot on the frenulum of my tongue. it looks like a cancer sore but not for sure. there also appears to be like a small sac type thing hanging off each side. worried?

Be sure of diagnosis: Get examined please. Canker sores are common aphthous ulcers of mouth that occur situationally, often in response to stressors, are bacterial or viral, &amp; can be treated topically with many otc products that reduce local discomfort &amp; potentially speed healing. However, oral/dental problems &amp; a number of systemic diseases cause canker sore-like lesions--crohn's, behcet's, std (sexually transmitted).

is it normal to get a canker sore on my tongue frenulum? how would i know if it's something more?

Time: If the problem persists for more than 10 days or gets worse, see your doctor or dentist about it.  Canker sores usually resolve in 10 days or less.

Need exam: The visual description is not sufficient to diagnose. Particularly if it's been there for more than a few days, I would suggest you have your dentist or primary care doctor have a look.

Yes: It's possible and very painful.  Canker sores go away within 7-10 days.  There are no very effective treatments that I've come across (and I've tried them all on myself and my patients!).  It's worth trying anbesol or other treatments to see if they might help you but don't be surprised if they don't.  The sores will go away on their own.

Don't worry...: Most likely not a big deal.  See your dentist to have it checked out, but it will usually heal up just fine.  While it may be sore now, look on the bright side...You'll be able to improve your gene simmons impressions!

i have a pain or soreness on both sides of my tongue like i bite it or burned it. what could it be.

Burning Tongue: These symptoms are consistent with 'burning tongue syndrome'.  You may also want to check for 'adverse reactions' of any medications that you are taking, since they sometimes cause dry mouth.  You may have bit your tongue during your sleep. However, any concern about lesions or sensations on the lateral borders of the tongue require a thorough evaluation by an oral surgeon or oral pathologist.

Variety of Causes: The majority of tongue problems are not serious and most can be resolved on it's own. However, if you have a sore on your tongue that doesn't go away within two weeks, you should consult a doctor or dentist for evaluation.
