my son only coughs at night. it starts around 12am. dry cough. not barking. no runny nose. during the day he  coughs only after running around. quick burst then its done. i give him alecet twice a day 2.5ml, flonase twice & occasional nebulise. ?

Accepted Answer

Uncontrolled asthma: The pattern is consistent with asthma that is not fully controlled. An asthma maintenance plan that includes an inhaled steroid by nebulizer daily is routine in such cases. Confirm this with the kids doc and make any needed changes. The alecet has nothing to do with this.

my 2 yr old son has cough and wheezing at night while sleeping, no fever. i have cough syrup, ventolin syrup, terbutaline syrup n ventolin nebules.

Wheezing: Check his rom which might be a cause for his wheezing such as a down pillow, stuffed animals, cat or shedding dog. Also look for dust catchers such as venetian blinds or books. Make sure the window is closed and the air conditioning going, hopefully with a clean filter

i am on a vacation in india and my 7 yr old son is coughing continuously at night. what should i do?

Depends: There could be many causes. If he has a fever, 100.4 or higher, it could be an infection. You have traveled and exposed him to novel viruses. It could be the pollution in India itself. 
If he is otherwise normal and happy, then give it time. If he is not, and is run down and acting really fussy take him to a doctor.

my 6 week old son keeps gagging and coughing  at night mainly , very flemmy when he brings up his bottle?

Accepted Answer

Sounds like: Gastro-esophageal reflux (milk goes back up to his throat from his stomach). For now, limit feeds to two ounces max and feed as often as he asks (2-3 hrs). Keep his head elevated above his stomach area for at least 30 min after feeds. See your doctor on monday. If at any time he seems to breath fast or develops fussiness and fever, take him to er.

Croup?: Croup is like barking make sure he is not asthmatic . How old is he?  Try opening the  hot shower for moist steem, push fluids . Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is a cough suppressant  or ask your  dr  for his opinion.

Possible asthma: It sounds like this could be nocturnal asthma and/or allergy related as well. You should check bedroom and environment at home for dust and dust mites as well as mold. Also if you have pets keep them out of bedroom at least. See if your doctor can also get allergy test and treat empirically for possible asthma. If there is family history be especially suspicious.

Humidifier: I would suggest elevating the head of the bed and also running a humidifier.  You may try a dose of benadryl (diphenhydramine) to see if it will help, although given that pt has dry cough it most likely will not help

Asthma possible: Recurrent and chronic coughing can be a result of untreated or undiagnosed asthma, or other problems including infection, acid reflux, allergies or structural problems of the heart or lungs.  A complete history and physical by your physician should be performed.

my son coughs in the morning but stops pass 9am or 10am. then he will cough again at night around 12midnight or 2am but it won't last 5 minutes during?

Post nasal drip?: Post nasal drip can sometimes cause cough in the morning and at night. If he is unwell, losing weight, bringing up blood when he coughs, has fevers you should see a doctor immediately. Otherwise I would speak to your doctor about possible treatments and get him checked out.
