Holter monitor: You may have a arrhythmia causing fast heart beats which are not uncommon in the early hours of the morning.  You may benefit by a holter monitor.  Please talk to your doctor about this soon.

Yes see your doc: Not sure what the source of your symptoms are, but definitely warrants a trip to your primary care doc for evaluation. Your doc will want to know the specifics so sometimes keeping a diary of symptoms to give for them to review will help them tease out what is going on.  Good luck!

Heart pounding: To really know what your heart rhythm is, you will have an EKG which is of value if your symptoms occured during the 10 seconds that the EKG records. The best test is the wearing of a Holter Monitor for 24-48 hours with you're writing down any symptoms and when they occurred. This will determine if any cardiac rhythm abnormality actually occurs during your symptoms. If not, anxiety may be a cause.

Accepted Answer

Tingling: Conditions that cause tachycardia and tingling.  Flight or fright problems. Anxiety or panic attack, stimulant use, thyroid problem would be all conditions associated with that combination of symptoms.

Not sodium: This symptom sounds more like a panic attack than a reaction to sodium.  Check back with your psychiatrist.

Check temperature: Provide fluid, a healthy meal/snack and monitor for fever. She should see her pediatrician for an evaluation.  Infections may be associated with chills and rapid heart rate.

70 year old woman with pulse of 143 and heart pounding.  blood pressure is 81/51 since i took three metropolol due to my heart beating fast.

Go To ER Now: Given your age, rapid symptom of fast heart rate and low blood pressure- i suspect a heart rhythm problem, most commonly atrial fibrillation. 
The faster your heart goes, the lower the blood pressure due to less time between beats to fill up with blood.
It does not sound as if your pulse is slowing down with the extra metoprolol.
 This needs to be evaluated further quite promptly.

can't sleep! 11 hours in 4 days. every time i try, i jerk awake with throat convulsion or bolt of adrenaline (or both!). pounding heart, trembling, choking feeling follow. tried mag, calc, vit d, b vits, valerian, sleeping upright/sides/back--nada :?

: Could be sleep apnea, nitemares, panic attacks, less likely seizures. Uncover via overnight sleep study with oximetry.  Start with neurologist

Mitral prolapse: It is highly unlikely that the diagnoses of mitral prolapse and anemia would be confused with each other.
