CT is better: Than ultrasound so you are probably ok but your doctor just wants to be sure.

Some possibilities: There are some non-cancerous liver tumors such as a liver adenoma, focal nodular hyperplasia, or hemangioma.  A liver protocol ct scan with IV contrast is a good way to tell these apart.  Another possibility is a liver mri.

6.5x5.5cm multioculated hypodensity nonenhancing liver cyst with no solid mass but with lobulations.  could it be cancer?

Usually not: Most cysts of the liver are not malignant.  There are two types of malignancies in the liver and both are not cystic.  The metastatic tumor from colon or other organ and the primary liver tumor or hepatoma and both solid.

5cm solid liver mass seen on us but not on ct. can a mass this size be missed? should i ask for a bx?

Liver mass...: Did they use IV contrast on ct or was it a noncontrast ct?  There are several different imaging modalities which can help characterize liver mass before biopsy.  Mri, nuclear tc sulfur colloid scan, and pet/ct scan are a few.  Each modality can provide unique information about the mass.  Discuss all options with your doctor to decide on the next step.

i have 2.5 cm x 2.1 cm liver solid mass detected in segment 6 of right lobe via ultra sound. mri is to be done next. i feel little discomfort under right rib area effected by movement. could it be due to liver or i may have some other muscle issue?

: If the mass in section 6, even small, is approximate the liver surface, it can distend the liver capsule and causes discomfort. You may be able to make the distinction by moving your chest wall muscle and ribs by moving the right shoulder back and forth. If pain exacerbates a lot, pain is likely of musculoskeletal origin. However, you should not worry much, wait for MRI to be done.

if ultrasound identified mass near intestines/right abdomen, would it tell u if it was solid?  if so is tumor only solid mass that can b found in area

Seek a better test: Abdomen is better visualized with a ct scan or MRI of the abdomen. Ultrasound is a good screen and is useful when it shows no abnormalities. But it does have high false positives ...So i would advise you to go see your doctor for further evaluation in order to confirm if you indeed have a tumor or was this just a false alarm.

i had an ultrasound done of the abdomen and they found an isoechoic lesion of the lateral left hepatic lobe,  it measured 4cm.  does isoechoic mean a solid mass? my ultrasound was done because i was experiencing lower back pain and bloating.

Isoechoic: is a descriptive term that means the lesion is similar in grayness/brightness to adjacent liver tissue.  It does imply a solid lesion, however.  Most of these incidental liver masses in your age group, assuming no history of cancer, turn out to be benign, usually hemangiomas.  You made need to have an additional test, usually CT or MRI, to show that it is a hemangioma vs something else

A benign tumor?: Benign neoplasms of the liver are usually slow-growing (they appear relatively stable in size on sequential liver imaging) isolated space-occupying structures that are not expected to turn into cancer.  Examples include: cysts, focal nodular hyperplasia, hemangiomas, adenomas, cholangiomas, cystadenomas, mesenchymal hamartomas. Giant (&gt;4cm) tumors can cause mass effect, thrombosis, pain.

Tumor: A solid mass in the kidney is kidney cancer unless proven otherwise. You need to talk to the doctor who diagnosed this.

what does a isoechoic mass in the liver mean?

Accepted Answer

Mass: It means that a mass was observed that had about the same echo characteristics as the surrounding liver. The significance of the mass would have to be further evaluated, usually with a needle biopsy, done under ultrasound or ct guidance.
