Cervical: Sounds like an entirely normal X-ray. All cervical spines straighten out in cray or MRI done supine. Alternatively could be indication of some cervical muscle spasm causing splinting and thus straightening of the spine.

Talk to ENT: Discuss the case with an ENT surgeon. If this tissue is benign they will be able to suggest techniques (allergic medications etc) to shrink tissue. If needed they will guide you to other, possibly surgical, options.

Neck abnormality: Consider sonogram to evaluate thyroid and the surrounding lymph nodes also check TSH/free T4.. If that is negative consider MRI or CT of neck( but lots of radiation with CT? May also be from reflux or post nasal drip try Zyrtec x 7-10 days ,an if not help add omeprazole/ranitidine  for reflux.before CT/MRI.  .

: Translation= your neck is straighter than expected because the muscles are tensed. The process does not show abnormalities, only stiff muscles.

Likely bony spur.: Bony spurs develop as one gets older, from wear and tear on joints, etc.  This can also happen in the neck and spinal column.  They are important to note since they can be near nerves, etc. And may have to be removed.

No: It may show part if the neck but technically is a shoulder x-ray , not neck. If radiologist finds an incidental finding on the neck, then clinical correlation &  neck studies will be recommended.

Good Technique: You can't shield the thyroid if you want to image the cervical spine or the soft tissues of the neck. Classical ways to minimize radiation dose are to limit the size of the field being irradiated and using proper technique to avoid repeating the exam.
