i m bipolar, eating divalporex sodium and arpiprazole,  i suffer strong anxiety at regular times.  my major problem is  memory loss. what is reason.

Complex: Without specific evaluation for memory loss no one can tell you your particular reason.  However, medications or the anxiety itself could cause memory problems.  Anxiety leads the nervous system to escape behaviors that cause easy distractability and focus on reaction rather than analytical processing.  These lead to memory problems, commonly referenced as "driven to distraction".

It depends.: If the main cause for memory loss is due to to acute sodium deficiency, he will recover when the sodium is replaced . It is rarely just one reason that memory is impaired. His doctor must find out what caused the sodium deficiency and correct the root cause.He should also try to find out whether there are medical problems that can contribute . Depression can also cause memolry deficits .

Not profitable: So few people were using it that it became unprofitable for medication manufacturers to produce or pharmacies to stock the product. Leukotriene receptor antagonists like singulair (montelukast) & accolate, while working by different mechanisms, were found to be about as effective & safe but far more convenient to use than cromolyn. They replaced cromolyn as a non-steroidal controller medication.

Not sure: There have not been any controlled studies of this medication past continuous use for 12 months. If you take it for acid reflux the fda has only approved its use for 4 weeks as a short term treatment. For ulcers, treatment can be up to 16 weeks. Long term effects may include swelling in the limbs, liver damage, muscle and joint aches, thyroid dysfunction, bone fractures, and blood disorders.

Not available.: This medication is no longer on the market, but i never heard a reason why. Most often, these are business decisions - even if a medication is effective, it will be discontinued if it doesn't generate enough profit for the manufacturer. With cromolyn, however, there probably wasn't enough bang for the buck; inhaled steroids are vastly more effective, and cromolyn was quite expensive.

is it ok to use colace (docusate sodium) long term?

Not the best.: Instead of using Colace (docusate sodium) a long term, a better approach would be to increase the amount of fiber in your diet and consider a fiber supplement, such as Metamucil,  daily. When you do that, you should ramp up the fiber slowly, to avoid getting gassy, and you should increase the amount of fluid intake in addition.  Good luck.

gained 5lbs water weight in 3 days due to excessive sodium, how can i flush it out?? im taking hydrochlorothiazide 25mg but no longer effective.

Diuresis: If you truly have fluid retention you could ask your physician if you could increase the dose to 50 mgs as needed or switch to a more potent diuretic like furosemide. Also ask about taking a potassium supplement with the diuretic. Do not increase your dose of hctz without your physicians OK.

Hypertension: Short term fluid retention usually excreted with the na within a day. Repeated episodes (or a high na diet) are thought to lead to hypertension and increased risk of heart disease and stroke.

Colace (docusate sodium): Personally i see no problem in taking colace (docusate sodium) on a long term basis.

on florinef x 6years for hypotension. i always had salt cravings & handfuls daily to keep bp up. still had low serum sodium. for the past few weeks this all stopped. i no longer crave salt-and stopped the handfuls but im retaining weight. causes?

: Your type of low blood pressure tends to resolve over time. I suspect this is what happened to you. Now you're entering a phase of salt and water retention probably due to hormonal changes.If your MD agrees,avoid adding salt at the table and avoid obviously salty foods. A mild diuretic as needed may be prescribed if obvious bloating occurs. Weight reduction would help as fat tissue collects fluid.
