Sleep apnea: If you snore in the seated position, likely your sleep apnea is severe.  Some people figure out that they sleep slightly better by sitting up but this will fail over time.  If you are having that symptom you need to see your physician.

Sleep apnea: This is a very common sleep disorder. Many people do not have any idea that they have it. Waking up suddenly "with a snort" is typical. You should get it checked out, particularly if you are sleepy during the day. Confirmation is through a sleep lab.

Snorting and sleepy.: See your doctor and suggest a sleep study.   This can evaluate your sleep patterns and determine the possibilities of obstructive sleep apnea (osa).  Both of which can be treated.  There are other issues but.... Check these out first.

Possible sleep apnea: As you fall asleep (transition from wake to sleep) your muscles of your airway also relaxes.  If it relaxes a little, you may snore, more than that and you may start impeding airflow causing hypopneas/apneas (which you may sense as snorting).  See your doctor, as a thorough history may warrant a sleep study.  Good luck!

Startle Response: When falling asleep in the sitting position we often droop our heads. This can cause a startle response which can be accompanied by a small snort. Others bend their heads forward enough to cause a temporary narrowing of the airway.Your body 'objects' to this and causes you wake up and inhale suddenly also causing a small snort. A "u" shaped travel pillow can help position you more comfortably.

fibromyalgia,joint issues & rem sleep behaviour.i suffer chronic pain & shoulder impingments,cant lay on right shoulder & just tolerate laying on left.i move onto back when asleep but this makes me snore & snort which disturbs wife.any suggestions?

: Physical therapy to help with pain, especially shoulders.  And please see your doctor for a referral for a sleep study.  Sounds as if you may have sleep apnea which not only disturbs sleep but has many other effects.

: From your post, might speculate that you possess a subclinical nerve compression issue at the wrist or elbow, which became evident secondary to meth.  Alternatively, this may have been a brain or a secondary cardiac phenomenon from vascular ischemia.  The safest approach is to seek appropriate drug rehab steps  ASAP, and avoid permanent complications.  Your choice!!
