Rx cough medicine: If OTC DMX doen not help, ask your physician for a stronger cough medicine. Opiates may be needed.

hard to breathe, chest xray "clear" but never heard back from dr, advair helped, still need to take big inhales to breathe. no smoking. lung cancer?

Highly unlikely: At your age that's highly unlikely, but bronchitis and/or asthma could definitely be playing a role. The fact that Advair helped is a big clue, as that medication reduces airway swelling, mucous production, and helps to relax muscles that can tighten around the airways as well. You may benefit from continued Advair and/or prednisone, and I'd talk to your MD about both! Hope this helps.

59 year old female. no history of smoking, lung cancer, lung problems. both nostrils are a little bloody when i blow my nose for the past 3 days. no cough, pain, fever or other symptoms. there weather has gotten cold a few days ago.cause for concern?

Humidifier: A humidifier may help to keep passages moist and less inflamed. If the bleeding is scant and related to blowing your nose, it is most likely that small vessels of the nose are the source. Watch for sputum, mixed with blood or cough with blood. If these occur, please see your Pulmonary specialist right away. Place a cool compress on your nasal bridge.

No: But i'm not sure what you are asking. Flying airplanes and high altitude may expose you to more cosmic radiation. Smoking in an airplane is now forbidden because you cause everyone to inhale side-stream smoke. And lun x-rays are done in a clinic or hospital and have no effects on aircraft.

Recent New England: Journal papers demonstrate that quitting before age 35 reduces your risk t never smokers, but quiting at any age up to 65 (they didn't have data beyond that) markedly and significantly redced risk and mortality. Quit.  Never start.  Don't allow the tobacco thugs to profit from your suicide.

Here are few possibl: This is unlikely to be anything like cancer. So i would not worry or get anxious about it.
You can either get a medical check up and have your doctor check you. A chest x-ray would assure that your lungs are ok. But i would only do this if the pain persists for &gt;3/4 weeks or if it gets worse on breathing or on coughing.
You can easily watch it for 1-2 more weeks and see if tylenol (acetaminophen)  can stop it.

dyspnea and edema in legs for 9 months. no smoking, had lung function test with and without bronc. 100% normal. spitting up phlegm 2-3 times a day, ct with contrast and x-ray shows no pulmonary edema. no chf. echo normal any ideas? i hate this?

: Another cause of fluid retention can come from kidney malfunction. Have your Dr's looked at your kidney function? It is possible with reduced kidney function that fluid is retained and causes shortness of breath, as well as edema in legs. Make sure you go back to your Dr and ask "what next?". Since you do not yet have a diagnosis, and they have ruled out heart problems, you need additional testing

No Butts : Yes, depending on the amount and length exposure (pack years = packs of cigarettes smoked daily divided by the amount of years smoked).  Research has shown that lungs of x-smokers are indistinguishable from those of non-smokers 10-15 years after one has quit smoking.  The body has the tendency to heal itself.
