Don't : Don't know if she had poor hygiene or if there was a vaginal discharge.  I havn't heard of a yeast infection smelling like rotten cheese.  If she did have a markedly malodorous vaginal discharge and you elected to put your penis in there anyway, have no idea what type of pathogens you may have exposed yourself to.
   Just because there is a hole, it doesn't mean you have to poke it. If the woman smelled so bad that you were both overwhelmed and disgusted; this should have raised some big red flags. Or a big red stop sign. If concerned about contracting an std, recommend that you see your doctor.

See doctor: It sounds like you definitely have an infection.  Could be simple like a yeast infection, or could be a more serious STD.  But definitely if you have white placques or papules, then probably yeast, but would want to make sure isn't herpes or syphilis. Normal for discharge to get pink or brown, that's usually discharge mixed with some new or old blood from menstrual cycle.

An infection brewing: It seems that you have an infection there. Unfortunately, some have a very deep belly-button hole which can trap moisture/debris and can get infected. Early fungal infection can have itching to it, but bacterial infection typically causes more swelling. If an infected cyst is ruptured, it can stink. Since you are having pain, i suspect bacterial cause. Consult doc for eval. Good luck.

: Should be OK. Best by …. does not mean discard date.  Smell and taste and if nothing growing on/in it likely OK.
