Have checked: The small lump could be many things.  Your thyroid gland is in that general area.  Nodules (lumps) in the thyroid should be evaluated by a Physician.  The best way to know what the lump is includes a physical examination

Likely not: A tumor. Could be a thyroglossal duct cyst which is congenital and benign (though sometimes they can get infected). Best to see an ENT doctor (ultrasound may be needed to further investigate).

GERD: I agree that your symptoms are consistent with reflux of acid from the stomach.  There are many meds now available to decrease acid production in the stomach.  Most common cause of sore throats in young adults is not infection but GERD.
