my daughter has small clusters of what looks lk bug bites on her left leg, hip, & below her navel. she hasn't been outside. they itch & are spreading. what could it be & should i take her to urgent cr?

Children's hospital: You can go to urgent care.  But many times there diagnosis is less accurate than at a children's hospital.  Kids are not small adults after all.

Topical treatment: Try using triple antibiotic cream if they look infected, or Hydrocortisone cream if they itch.  If you are not sure they are bug bites, see a physician, especially if they are on your palms and soles or if you have a fever.

Unlikely: Bug bites often cause itching. You should get your doctor to look at the rash.

How long?: How long have you had them?  Do they itch or burn?  Any new medication introduced within a a few weeks prior to the rash?    If this has been occurring for more than 8 weeks or is getting worse, see your family doctor or dermatologist.

Any: There is no way to tell which bug bite causes a certain coloration on the skin since the coloration is more an individual response than from the bite itself.  The coloration also varies with time.  There are however certain bites which may produce a characteristic rash on people (the target like lesion with ticks carrying lyme disease, the bruised &amp; pusey lesion from some spider bites etc)

Yes: Insect bites can become infected. If you are having redness around the area and pus, I suggest you look for immediate medical attention. Hope this helps.

Cannot say: Rashes often require a direct exam for their character &amp; distribution to begin the process of a proper label. Those localized to a single region are more likely from contact with a local agent. Those that are more generalized may be foods or general contact. It may  be something different.

Red spots -yellow : Several possibilities from bug bites, chicken pox, staph infection to name a few.  Time to have your doctor exam you to see what you have and give proper treatment.

See a dermatologist: You are correct it is not ants or spiders. Maybe it is not bites of any kind. See a skin specialist.
