not a very bad curve in a 38 year old person i would definitely seek another opinion 
upper back pain can be very hard to treat 
but is not usually indicative of serious pathology  and i would tend to doubt that the curve has much to do with it / seek out an orthopedic spine specalist perhaps  best of luck with this problem.

my doctor tells me that i need an mri on my back because of my constant back  pain. he checked my nerves and said they they were ok. an ultrasound was also done. he found a slight curve in my spine. are there any side effects of an mri and what else other

No side wffects: The MRI is a safe test that uses a magnet instead of X-rays.  Because of this there is no radiation exposure.  It is one of the best tests for deteriorated or herniated disk problems.  Tests to get an answer are not always necessary.  The MRI is usually done only if surgery is being considered , if your symptoms don't fit a specific pattern, or if the treatment isn't working.

Exercise: Regular exercise, any exercise, will help strengthen your muscles and avoid the pain. It may take a few months to get in shape, but it would be better than taking pills. Start exercising, you may start with walking and increase the time and intensity of exercise as tolerated.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

what does 'mild' osteoarthritis of the spine really mean?

Nothing: It means you're 38! like wrinkles of skin or gray hair, your spine also normally ages. These findings are reported as "arthritis" or degenerative disk disease or spondylosis. None of these implies any pain or need for further treatment nor restriction if activities.

This is normal: Fracture healing time at least 6 weeks, and could be longer as there is no way to "rest" your spine.

Mild scoliosis: Scoliosis usually does not cause pain unless severe or some offset of the vertebrae.Adults who have scoliosis may or may not have back pain. In most cases where back pain is present, it is hard to know whether scoliosis is the cause.

&gt;25: You mean on the xray? If so we usually see it after age 25, the findings on imaging don't correlate with the symptoms too much but it's a normal finding to see it past that age group.

Degenerative spine: Spondylosis is a non-specific term for degenerative changes of the spine. In isolation it has little meaning. Everyone will develop some spondylosis as they age.

ive been to zim, mild bowel action on sunday morning. a pain along the upper part of the spine one night. now have like elect shocks spasms at night?

Muscle &amp; Nerve: Most likely, muscle spasm triggered pressure on one of the nerves ,consider applying heat or ice, anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxant.
