Yes: When someone bruises it forms a clot. Some clots are bigger, depending on the vessel and sometimes the depth and sometimes can calcify and it can be felt as a knot or nodule. If the hematoma is roundish, it can also be felt as a knot.

: This is evidence of traumatic bleeding and the lump under the bruise is a blood clot ( hematoma). The yellowish hue means breakdown of blood products and the bruise.is days old. This type of clot isn't dangerous as it doesn't travel. Applying heat for 20 minutes every few hours may hasten the dissolving of the clot. Occasionally the clots turn very hard&amp; are tender and require removal by a surgeon

i get huge purple bruises if i just scratch my skin that is itchy. i never used to bruise so easily. i'm 48. could this just be from getting older?

Bit unusual: Sure, thinning of the skin with old age is normal and this does result in a higher propensity to bruise; however, 48 is on the young side for this phenomenon. This deserves testing of the blood coagulation system and can be initiated by your primary doctor.

For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.

If you have a condition that predisposes you to bleeding under the skin, then you would need to watch your blood counts (hemoglobin/hematocrit) always. Iron is a supplement to increase the number of red blood cells the bone marrow makes to replace dead blood cells.

Get checked again: You should go right away to get a check of your complete blood count. Leukemias can arise very quickly and often occur in younger people. Your bruising may be due to low platelets and your shortness of breath may be due to low hemoglobin.
