Also may require opthalmologic evaluation for dryness or damage and sometimes a biopsy or the oral mucoal glands can help.

Sicca syndrome: Usually the first symptoms are a dry mouth and the perception of dry eyes.  Fatigue and cognitive dysfunction are the most common extraglandular problems. All wter producing glands are affected.  The ability to perspire will diminish. Constipation can occur.  Some patient do get vasculitis and or renal issues, most commonly nephrotic sydrome.  Raynaud's can occur.

A LOT!: Sjogren's is an autoimmune disease affecting "water" secretory glands, such as salivary glands, tear ducts, but even sweat glands, and mucous producing glands found in the vagina, chest, colon, etc. In most people it causes few serious problems, but they can occur. Most patients are SS-A and/or SS-B positive, but Sjogren's can secondarily be part of lupus or rheumatoid arthritis.
