May need antibiotics: If symptoms have been present for less than two weeks, it is more likely a viral infection and often doesn't respond well to these medications.  If symptoms have been present for more than two weeks without any improvement, then antibiotics might be an option.

Decongestant spray: The nost important treatment for sinusitis is adequate nasal/sinus drainiage. A decongestant nasal spray is often the most important thing to do, e.g. a preparation containting oxymatzoline. An antibiotic may help, but not necessarily. Discuss with your doctor, if you have one (although I understand this may be a challenge for some people in South Africa). Good luck!

Yes: Relief can be obtained with the use of saline nasal spray, and  the antihistamine/ decongestant/ pain reliever combinations found in some cold medications. Use the best combination for the symptoms you are experiencing. Double check with the store pharmacist, especially if you are taking other medications.

A few  causes: The first thing I think of is your vitamins.  Do they contain zinc, copper, or chromium? If so, this may be the source and you may need to change formulations. Periodontal disease or tooth decay can contribute. Sometimes women in early pregnancy note a metallic taste. Hope this helps.

Sinusitis:chronic: A sinus inflammation can arise from an allergy, a virus or a bacteria.  Those which start as allergies/viruses can block the sinus passages (swelling) and allow bacterial infection to occur. Ask your healthcare provider to consider using Ciprofloxin, a quinolone antibiotic with excellent coverage for abscesses (which is what bacterial sinusitis represents).

: Sinusitis can be a chronic problem. Small changes in hydration and wellness can cause a flareup of the symptoms. Inflammation can frequently cause secondary infections when fluid builds up and allows bacteria/viruses to grow. Use saline nasal washes daily, combined with decongestants, antihistamines and if infected, see a Dr for Antibiotics. Regular prevention = avoid symptoms.
