when i touch metal such as my aluminum laptop, i experience a strong metallic taste in my mouth and throat irritation. any info. as to why this can happen? i do not take any medications or have any health issues?

Probably coincidence: Metrogel vaginally does not usually cause the irritation However Flagyl orally can give some mouth metal like taste and can cause some stomach irritation With any indigested alcohol more side effects can occur

Influenza: It may be influenza or a flu-like illness, but coughing up blood is disturbing. If this does not stop in next several days or you have fever, shortness of breath or other new symptoms you should go and get seen by a doctor and evaluated. Good luck.

Be cautious: Although your "chest irritation" could be a localized costochondritis, the possibility of gastro-esophageal or cardiovascular problems cannot be fully excluded.  Therefore, put your running on hold, temporarily, contact your doctor, inform of you new pains, and get cleared prior to resuming exertional activity.

GERD, postnasal drip: Gastroesophageal reflux, in which stomach contents can jump up into the throat, can cause recurrent throat irritation.  Postnasal drip, such as from allergies, can also cause repeated throat irritation.  Smokers and people who drink substantial amounts of alcohol are at higher risk for throat cancer than those who do not. Unexplained symptoms that persist despite treatment warrant evaluation.

Allergies, other: Post nasal drip from allergies and sinusitis is a common cause of throat irritation.  Acid reflux (which is a cause of heartburn) can also irritate the throat. (see dr. Melder's comment below).

What to do.: Cold tips: for sore throat – gargle with warm salt water (1/2 tsp salt in 8 oz of water). * for congestion – saline nose drops or a neti pot. *for anti-inflammatory effect ; mobilizing mucus- homemade chicken noodle soup.**for hydration- lots of water. Try clear broth. * add honey ; a small amt. Of lemon juice to chamomile tea.

Quit smoking: You should quit smoking while you are ahead. It is unlikely that the bump is cancer, but by continuing smoking you are ruining your health in many ways.

Reflux: You may have acid reflux. Try taking Zantac (ranitidine) at night for 2-4 weeks to see if that helps.
