Stroke v Bells: Both of these conditions can cause facial weakness.  Usually, but not always, a stroke causes weakness on one side of the face, of the lower face (mouth) only.  This is apparent when someone tries to smile.  Bell's palsy affects the upper and lower parts of the face, so it is hard to close the eye tightly shut and to smile, on one side of the face.  There are always exceptions, but this is helpful.

Men and women are equally affected.

But, helpful to ascertain the full extent of the nerve function, and an EMG test can reveal what is occurring.  After this is done, might get consult from neurological surgeon, just to get familiar with potential options.  Would not hurt to supplement b and d vitamins.

Ask your doc: For a true bell's without any ambiguity i generally don't order mris, but your doc may have had a reason for doing so.

Paliatively: Most people recover completely, without treatment in 1 to 2 months. Especially true if you can still partly move your facial muscles. Some people may have permanent muscle weakness or other problems on the affected side of the face but it is rare.   Treatment with corticosteroids is common which helps lower long term side effects.  Also if it is caused by a virus,  Acyclovir is helpful.
