A member asked:

Does bells palsy ever get better?

2 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Mostly: This is a palsy of one side of the face from the swollen facial nerve in its narrow exit canal through the skull. In most cases it will recover over a six month interval. A certain percentage will have long term weakness, and a very small group don't recover much at all. You should check with your family doctor for this who can direct your care.

Yes: Most people with bell's palsy will regain normal facial movement. This may take weeks or months however. Some people will only regain some movement and a few will remain completely paralyzed.
