You may experience: No cramps or other side effects prior to your period. However, women with premenstrual syndrome may experience symptoms 1 to 2 weeks prior to their period.

Accepted Answer

Switch uninterrupted: If you will be using the same method (oral contraceptives), you can switch brands without interrupting pill schedule.  However, if you will be transitioning from pills to iud, patch, etc you will need to use back-up method and discuss timing issues with your gynecologist (each has different protocols..).

Pregnancy worries?: A urine pregnancy test, done correctly, gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period. If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too soon, and thus lead to a repeat test. With irregular periods, it can be hard to guess when to test, perhaps at 2.5-3 weeks after sex.

Ovary: Sounds like a pain in the ovary. It could be a cyst. They often resolve spontaneously after your menses. There are many other possibilities, including low grade infection, intestinal or appendix, urinary tract and hernia, so if it is severe or persistent, get it checked by a gynecologist.

Some women do: Experience nausea & other GI upset with their period. Probably the simplest way to reduce nausea is with ginger. You can drink slightly flattened ginger ale or nibble on crystallized ginger. Or pour boiling water over freshly sliced organ ginger & steep x 5 min in a covered pot. Sip.

Release of : Prostaglandins. Some women also have specific health issues which ^ symptooms:  reasons for significant menstrual cramps can be endometriosis,  cervical stenosis, uterine fibroids, adenomyosis & pelvic inflammatory disease.

Sleep cycle changes: If you are feeling pain during that time of the month, you may experience a lighter than usual sleep cycle with more awareness REM pattern sleep and thus dreams or nightmares.  There are also some fluctuations of serotonin levels associated with the monthly cycle which can affect dreams and awareness of dreams.

If it is heavy: It can, if normal not usually, but please see your gyn as your gyn can do a CBC to check and if your period is too heavy or lasts too long there are many diff meds u can get on and if u have iron def anemia u can get on extar iron.

Urinalysis: Be seen by your doctor, and they can do a catherterized sample to check for blood in the urine.
