Bloat: The fiber may be fermenting in your gut so..M switch to a non psyllium bulk product.

can i take psyllium husk during my 7 day amoxicillin cycle ( tooth) ? any bad side effects? or will it cause the amox to not do its job?

Accepted Answer

: Yes, you can take amoxicillin with psyllium husk and it will not affect the absorption of the antibiotic. Probably more to the point however, antibiotics are rarely helpful for tooth decay and pain. Be sure to see a dentist soon for definitive treatment.

Accepted Answer

I generally: Treat acute diverticulitis with 2 weeks of antibiotics and to stay on a no to low fiber diet for 6 weeks from diagnosis. I do not recommend starting psyllium before the 6 weeks have elapsed and you are symptom free as you risk a more severe recurrence during those 6 weeks with possible complication of perforation, abscess or fistula development, all of which are emergencies.

Size of particle: An organic product is an unregulated food supplement.  The difference between whole and powder form is how the product is compounded. Powder form is smaller granules.

Psyllium husk: Psyllium is a soluble fiber. It absorbs water in intestine and adds bulk to the stool.  
Effective in softening the consistency of stool with a minimum of adverse effects. 
Psyllium helps with symptoms of Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) which can cause diarrhea/constipation/gas/bloating. 
Screening Colonoscopy at age 50 is recommended to screen for Colon cancer. 
Consult Doc if Chronic diarrhea.

??trees: Wht not try bran, oats, oatmeal, fresh fruits and vegetables? Pwodered fuber like metamucil is available all over.

Yes, definitely: Psyllium powder is definitely safe in pregnancy.  It is not absorbed by your body, but rather pulls water into the intestine.  You could use the product every day, even twice a day.  Another great medication that functions in he exact same way (but tastes better) is miralax, (polyethylene glycol) or generic equivalent.  Same idea, not absorbed, can take 1-2 times a day.  Remember to drink lots of water too!

i accidentally took 2 tablespoons of psyllium powder instead of two teaspoons. i've had 2 days of bloating. will it go away of its own accord?

Accepted Answer

Yes: that is not unusual if a person ingests a lot more fiber than usual all at once. This is why when we advocate increasing fiber that we recommend that people start slowly and build it up. There is much less bloating and gas if you follow that schedule.  When your stools are back to normal, start adding in a small amount of fiber each day, and then gradually build it up. Good luck.
