Shoulder dystocia: Shoulder dystocia is a serious problem, resulting in the infant being stuck in the birth canal.  Your obstetrician is well versed in dealing with this problem during delivery.

: Well, when a baby is born, typically the head comes out first and then the shoulders need to come out next. The width of the shoulders is wider than the head. Therefore, the shoulders have to roll in a bit but even then, sometimes one of the shoulders has difficulty passing down and that is "shoulder getting stuck during delivery". A few maneuvers by the doctor usually helps move it along.

Shoulder dystocia: It is called shoulder dystocia. Almost impossible to predict and seen in higher percentage in obese or diabetic mothers. There are some maneuvers to deliver the baby, some involve intentionally hurting the baby (collar bone fracture and humeral bone fracture) so you can get the baby out asap. Sometimes this does not work. It is the worse OB complication.

Not necessarily: Shoulder dystocia varies with the size of the baby, the size of the outlet and the elasticity of the pelvis during delivery. Although it may happen again it also may not.

is it safe to get the epidural with the scs during delivery?

Accepted Answer

Depends on where: If it is in the lower to mid-back (for pain in back to toes) the leads are at a small risk of damage, if they are higher(ribs to head) it is very difficult to damage the system.  Either way bring in films of where the IPG and leads are EARLY to OB Anesthesia to discuss this with them. They will likely consult a Pain Medicine specialist like me to discuss whether or not it would be safe for you.

25 weeks pregnant. low bp all my pregnancy (90/50s-80/50s) seems to be getting tad worse 80s/40s.i'm not anemic. a couple times it dipped to 70/40s. if it don't get better by labor/delivery is it dangerous during delivery? will i be denied epidural?

Low bp : You should see a doctor. A concern would be dizziness, chest pain, leg swelling or shortness of breath.

Tinea: Tinea Versicolor would be on the top of my list. A quick visit to your doctor and a course of anti fungal ointment- should solve your problem.

Adhesive capsulitis: Probably the most effective otc medication for the pain of adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder is ibuprofen.  Arnica gel or cream applied directly to the area may also help. Aspercreme may help too as something to rub on it. A final otc cream that could be tried is zostrix (capsaicin) [be careful how you use this since it can cause intense burning over normal tissue areas; do not get into your eye.

i'm 16 & get random nausea during the day.  also twice in the past month my heart & shoulder had chronic pain waking me up. it happened around 4-8 am?

See doctor: At your age, you need to be checked either by your pediatrician or gynecologist for this pain symptom.
You may be pregnant, have menstrual complications, 
ulcer, stomach indigestion, or a number of other illnesses that are causing your recurring pain. Please call tomorrow and get a good, thorough evaluation.

Shoulder MUA: Not common at all. Mua of the shoulder is quite straight forward.
