Cellulitis: Oral, topical, or intravenous antibiotics may be used to treat cellulitis. The extent of the infection and its location help determine what type of antibiotic is used.Oral antibiotics include penicillin, cephalexin, or cefaclor. For people who are allergic to penicillin, a cephalosporin or Erythromycin can be used.Topical antibiotics for mild cellulitis but do you feel you can determine this!

No: Cellulitis is an infection of the skin and subcutaneous  tissues.  Neosporin does not penetrate below the surface and will not help cellulitis. Oral or intravenous antibiotics are usually needed.

my bellybutton itchy, wet, smell and very little pain. was about to clean w/ a small betadine on qtip then neosporin antibiotic. is that ok?

Accepted Answer

Yes: That's not unusual if you have not cleaned it for awhile.  What you did was fine but soap and water or a little rubbing alcohol would likely have done the trick.  Try to clean the area out once a week.   If the antibiotic did not help, consider an anti-fungal cream.

Sharp nails!: You may apply neosporin twice a day to the scrapes on your baby.  Try using an emery board to file your baby's nails so that the nails aren't sharp enough to scratch herself.

Ointment: the mupirocin would be acceptable to replace neosporin.  However, I would still suggest betadine or a hard soap like cetaphil to keep the area clean.

No, see a Doctor: It does not sound normal, does sound infected, and may be transmissible. You should be evaluated by a doctor--yours, or urologist or county health dept "std clinic" or urgent care.

Accepted Answer

Neosporin: Is less likely to hurt or to interfere with healing.  Just clean it as you were directed, then blot or blow dry, and apply the Neosporin as a protective and antibacterial cover.

i had a pimple on my face that i didnt pop and it just turned into a scab. it became infected. should i put betadine followed by neosporin?

Neosporin is fine: I would just use the neosporin for 3 or 4 days. If the infected area is not improving or is worsening despite the neosporin, then you will need to be seen by a physician for potentially an oral antibiotic.

: Systemic antibiotics (oral or IV, depending on severity) usually are advised for periorbital cellulitis, but your doctor might have determined you only have conjunctivitis (pink eye). Check back with the doctor if you remain concerned, or especially if the problem isn't starting to improve within a day or two of antibiotic drops. Good luck.

No: If you have cellulitis which is caused by a bacterial infection of skin and subcutaneous tissue, antibiotics are an absolute must to cure the infection. Betadine lotion is not likely to have an impact on healing the cellulitis.
