NO: Stitches may pull and with motion be uncomfortable. They should not cause nerve symptoms.

i cut my thumb and got 6 stitches 4 days ago and i am not able to bend my thumb at all. i can move it back and forth. is this normal.

Thumb: Depends on where the laceration occured on the thumb. If you can't bend it then one would worry that you may lacerated the tendon. I would see the doctor that repaired your thumb or see an ortho doc.

Yes: Remember, the area will be swollen and tender for several days after the injury.  Also, be on the look out for possible infection - if the repair becomes "hot & red" as well as painful - seek medical attention.

Bruise with a lump?: That sounds worrisome.  How heavy is the object that hit you?    What kind of lump?    It makes me worry that a doctor should evaluate your abdomen to make sure the bruise with a lump in it isn't serious.

Probably : The answer is yes it is probably normal since the doctor you saw said there were no signs of infection. What you are experiencing is a normal healing process.  If you have redness swelling or drainage then I would return to make sure an infection hasn't started.

Need more info.: It may be normal, but your description is not sufficient to give more information. You could always have injured more than just skin or you could potentially have an infection. That said, it could just be normal tissue reaction. An exam by your physician would either make the diagnosis or reassure you that all is well.

Probably not: New swelling a week+ after surgery may be an indication that something isn't right.  You should go back to your doc and have it rechecked.  Hope this helps!

Be patient : An injury to the digital nerve may take months to years (2 months to 2 years) to recover from.  You probably have a neuroma that has formed.  An evaluation by an orthopedic hand surgeon may offer you a surgical option.

had a deep slice on the tip of the thumb 3 days ago when cutting food. the wound is already closed up without stitches, no bleeding, no pus, no pain unless pressure applied. however, the edges of the sliced bit are purple in colour. is that normal?

: Healing from injury is a process, and 'normal' is not the word for it; give enough time for healing. The skin changes may be part of healing process and you have indicated by the fact that there is not much pain that infection is unlikely. Precaution to avoid introducing bacteria by cleaning and covering when handling dirty chores should allow faster healing  .
