Need more info.: It may be normal, but your description is not sufficient to give more information. You could always have injured more than just skin or you could potentially have an infection. That said, it could just be normal tissue reaction. An exam by your physician would either make the diagnosis or reassure you that all is well.

It is normal: It is normal, as long it is not infected. Keep your hand elevated (above the heart) as much as possible and it will heal and feel better sooner.
