should i take zoloft (sertraline) for interstitial cystitis?

Sometimes: There are a number of options for interstitial cystitis.  Elmiron is the only oral fda approved medication.  It can be helpful but does take time to be effective.  Dmso is also fda approved but is usually provided as a bladder irrigation.  Anti-depressant medications such as zoloft (sertraline) may helpful for some patients.  Typically the best approach is muti-modal therapy.  Check with your provider.

i have endometriosis growing around my bladder (seen during previous surgery) causing interstitial cystitis type symptoms. if surgery to remove it doesnt improve symptoms, can i request my bladder to be removed? would they take me seriously at 27?

: Good thought but.....What you would then need is for a section of intestine be fashioned into a pseudo bladder over which you would have no control of urine coming out of it and have to wear a pad over the hole draining the pseudo bladder. I would ask about less drastic solution in your area in women like you.

Other therapies: That can help include bladder instillations, antihistamines like Hydroxyzine or cimetidine, elmiron, (pentosan) oab meds like oxybutinin. Pelvic floor pt due to painful , contracted muscles can be helpful as well as acupuncture.   This can be a very frustrating problem to cope with.   I hope you feel better soon.

Probably not: B2 is very non=toxic. 1) do u raelly need it? 2) if your ic symptoms are worse when u take b@ stop taking it. U can continue taking it providing it doesn't worsen your ic symptoms.

Lots: none of the medications you mentioned are mainstays in the treatment of  interstitial cystitis. I would recommend you see a  urologist who can offer the standard of care fir interstitial cystitis management

i have interstitial cystitis and  im taking cipro (ciprofloxacin) for uti plus i take methadone 4 the pain caused by interstitial cystitis will the pain med work?

Consult urologist: Methadone seems a little "over the top" for treating IC pain &amp; risk of opiate addiction. High dose ibuprofen, naproxen, lidocaine patch or vaginal diazepam all worth trying first. ? consult pain clinic. Hope UR on bland IC diet, avoid alcohol, smoking, caffeine, acidic beverages, spicy foods etc. Also have been tried on various IC meds  such as amytriptyline or pentosan polysulfate (Elmiron)
