Change antiviral?: You cannot get rid of the virus that causes chicken pox and also shingles - varicella zoster.  Would be odd, but not impossible, to have shingles on face and pubic area. May be another virus. Liquid from oozing lesions can be tested to see what virus it is.

Don't be offended: Be safe, get checked.  That is a large number of places to have shingles erupt all at the same time.  Your physician is doing his due diligence and making sure there is nothing wrong with your immune system. HIV is common and can be crossed off his list for possible reasons this is occurring to you.  Be well, don't be offended, sounds like you have a good doctor!

Shingles: Yes it can be seen on the dorsum - it follows the distribution of the affected nerve. Cannot comment on how common this is.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Shingles is a reactivation of the same virus that causes chicken pox.  It typically occurs in the same dermatomal distribution of the body, so to answer your question, yes, it can re-occur in the same area.

i developed shingles 7 years ago. but after shingles i lost feeling in areas in my body. i had three rows down my back. what can i do to reverse it?

R/O PHN: After a bout of shingles some patients may develop post herpetic neuralgia. This condition is usually painful. If the area is numb you should be examined and have labs checked . Also X-ray of thoracic and lumbar spines. If symptoms persist an MRI WOULD BE WARRANTED to rule out a herniated disc or MS plaque

Yes possible: Any injection can cause a local swelling or irritation in the area of injection.  This should resolve in a few days at the most.  If still of concern, seek advice from your doctor.

Shingles: Sometimes pain presents before the rash is apparent.

Accepted Answer

Lumps under skin: Usually shingles doesn't present as hard lumps under the skin.  The characteristic rash is vesicular and not nodular, but it's hard to say for sure without a picture and exam.  It'd be useful to get them checked to make sure this is really a shingles outbreak and not something else.

hello, now i have shingles on my body and i want to know if i can get a tattoo or should i wait for the shingles to disappear and do it later, i want to know if i can have complications if i get a tattoo have this area with the shingles area thanks?

: I had shingles and couldn't wait for pain to end. Your body is under stress from a virus and doesn't need any possible complications such as an infection from a tattoo. Wait till shingles has ended and your body will be in better shape to receive a tattoo.

is it normal for shingles to cause bruising in the same area as shingles sores?

Shingles sores.: An area of shingles can be characterized by surrounding areas of inflammation that looks like bruising - it’s called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.  It tends to last for several weeks after the shingles dried up and heals.
