i have shingles on my hand and work directly with food and have my wash my hands frequently throughout the day. how do i work with this?

Shingles: Shingles is a blistering viral infection (herpes zoster). Check with your doctor. You should not be working with food if you have active shingles on your hand because shingles can lead to chicken pox in people that are not immune to it. The blisters settle within 10 days to 3 weeks, and are non-contagious when they have dried up.  If they have dried up, use plenty of hand cream after washing.

can you get shingles on the palms of your hands? and does it come in a cluster or single bumps?

Extremely rare: It is most likely pomphylox  (or dishydrotic eczema). This is more common if your hands are wet alot. Shingles is usually painful and typiclaly occurs on the trunk. To be sure, see a dermatologist for proper diagnosis and treatment. Good luck!

hi. iv had shingles last year october for 1 and a half months. it returned in july mildly on my left hand. last week i noticed mild symptoms and i didnt interfere with it. 5 mins later it disappeared and a few hours later the same symptom?

Shingles: I'm skeptical that the subsequent eruptions are also shingle flareups. If you have a current eruption, rash or skin lesions,I would like a physician or a dermatologist to examine you in order to get a proper diagnosis and, if needed, appropriate treatment.

had shingles 6yrs ago. now am having sores show up on both hands am using triamcinolone cream 0.1%. keeps coming back.

was told i have shingles, have been numb below waistline about big as my hand for 1 wk & only have 3 spots for 3 days.....will i break out more?

Shingles: Shingles generally stays on one side of body.  If it crossed over it is unlikely to be shingles.  Numbness?  Not usually, please see a doc.

Post-herpetic neural: Post-herpectic neuralgia refers to burning, tingling, stinging, electrical shocky, icy cold pain in same area as healed shingles blisters. Check out http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/postherpetic-neuralgia/basics/definition/con-20023743. So it's difficult to explain why you're reporting symptoms at a distant site from your shingles. Poorly controlled diabetes? Vitamin B12 deficiency?

Probably: It certainly sounds like herpes zoster (shingles).  See your doc and get treated!  the sooner the better.  Silvadene (silver sulfadiazine) cream has been reported to help in some cases, if that is available to you there along with anti-viral medications.  It is does hurt!  I am sending sympathetic thoughts your way!  Stay away from pregnant women and people who might have immune deficiency (like on cancer, HIV meds)

Shingles : Shingles are caused by re-activation of the varicella virus that causes chicken pox. Following an attack of chicken pox were develop some immunity but often the virus remains behind in our nerve cells. The virus is stored in the dorsal root ganglion which is the part of the nerve root that deals with feeling. It can affect any part of the body and is often in a band-like outbreak. The name 'shingles' is derived from cingulum the latin word for belt. It has been highly recommended that people over 50 be offered a vaccination for this virus to reduce the incidence and severity of an outbreak. In people over 60 a post-herpetic neuralgia is common and can last months. The sores disappear and the burning pain of the sores turns into electric shock sensations and skin sensitivity where the sores were.
 I sympathize with you having dealt with a friend and my mother who also had shingles in the left arm. The thing that worries me is that you have swelling and loss of muscle function. Furosemide is a water pill or diuretic, but won't help if your swelling is related to some blockage of blood flow. Something else beside post-herpetic neuralgia is happening. Ask your doctor to refer you to a neurologist for evaluation. He may also consider medication to reduce your pain level. Because outbreaks sometimes occur when the nerve root is irritated by arthritic changes in the spine an EMG test may help find an underlying cause. Good luck to you.

Prob not shingles: Your doctor probably is correct that this isn't shingles. "Hands and arms" (plural) suggests this rash is on both sides of your body, which doesn't happen with shingles. Continue working with your doctor; or see a dermatologist.

can shingles be the cause of hand foot mouth disease virus?

No: No.Although the viruses are part of the same family of viral disease, the shingles or herpes zoster is not the same as the coxsackie virus cause of hand foot and mouth disease.
