Physical exam: Does your pain worsen when you twist your back?  If so, it could be from facet joints.  You would need to see your doctor for an evaluation because a number of things could do this including kidney stones or even aortic dissection (unlikely, but it wold be  an emergency if you had this)... It's most likely something not so serious, though.  I hope you feel better.

Back pain and swelli: Try ice to the area for 10 minutes a few times per day.  Tension in upper back can also cause headaches.

Yes: You are only 3 days out from this surgery and it would be normal to have pain.  So long as no fever, you should be fine.  If you haven't, consider some Ibuprofen (600mg every 8 hours) for pain.  Make an appointment with your md if not resolving by tomorrow.  Best of luck, i'm sure you'll be fine.

Lots of things: Go see your physician first to make sure it isn't something scary.  Then take a look at how you sit, your general conditioning, how you use your body.  For help, try physical therapy to include mobilizations and increasing thoracic mobility, treatment by an osteopathic physician and a supervised stretching program.  If these aren't helpful, sometimes it's from an old injury- physical or emotional.

See a doctor: Assuming you have done the typical conservative care such as ice/heat, nsaids, rest and exercise then it is time to see a doctor to address the issue.  You may need further testing/imaging  depending in what the doctor sees.

Need more info: It would be better to have a greater understanding of the problem to understand your pain. The upper back can be ligaments, muscle, nerve, disc, or referral from the lung, stomach, heart. It is a common symptom from COVID 19 with subtle lung inflammation.

Depends: How did it start?  Trauma or some injury, or out of the blue?  It could be something simple that will get better with anti-inflammatories and time, but if there was a specific injury or it doesn't get better in a couple weeks, you should go be evaluated by your physician.  Sooner if you have any other associated symptoms like weakness in your legs.
