i'm having very low left sharp and steady abdominal pain. i've had groin pain related to si joint problems, but this is more low abdomen. i have ankylosing spondilytis, but this isn't spinal. no bloating or other issues. i'm not sure how to treat?

: At your age and with the pain location, acute diverticulitis is strongly suspected. Physical exam, blood test and CT of the abdomen will confirm the diagnosis but not always necessary. Recently, studies have shown that antibiotic(s) may not change the outcome in mid to moderate cases. You need to hydrate well in the mean time. Go to the hospital if pain gets worse or high fever &amp; chill occur.

A million things: You need a good clinician to take a full history - what kind of changes in bowel habits - constipation, diarrhea, maybe both alternating, and what kind of abdominal pain - sharp, dull, aching, does it change with activity or rolling over in bed.  The most common cause of constipation with left lower quadrant pain is irritable bowel syndrome, but could be diverticulosis, appendicitis and many other.

Abdominal pain: Any change in diet, stress, stool,  injury, never before, much gas passed, antiacids for growling stomach, new job/college since high school? No fever, nausea, vomit...before could suggest answer or see your doc soon.

You're the decider: If significant pathology has been excluded to your satisfaction, and the symptoms are not progressive, worrisome (unaccompanied by alarm signs or distress), and are tolerable, you have the options next of: 1) further testing; 2) symptom-based treatment; 3) watchful waiting; 4) another opinion.  Also, did you consider your symptoms may be of non-gastrointestinal origin?

This test is limited: CRP has limited usefulness as a test. Yet it may be related to your abdominal pain. Your gynecologist is the best person to help you. I hope you do not have endometriosis. Ask your gynecologist to check you for this problem since all other tests are not showing anything obvious as the cause of your abdominal pain.

Could be: Several things, but acute diverticulitis, kidney stone, constipation are the most common. Best to see your doctor today! perforated diverticulitis is a whole bag of extra problems that you would do best to avoid.

Ovarian: A very likely possibility is your ovary...If you're 5-15 days past your last period, ovulation can cause pain, or a lingering ovarian cyst.  This is just one possibility though so go get it checked out promptly if it gets worse or doesn't go away!

Many possibilities: Options would b menstrual related pain, colon related (diverticulitis - unlikely as ur pain comes and goes), ibs, constipation, hernia etc. U need to c ur medical doc for s complete history and exam. If u have fever/chills u need to call them asap.

Abdominal pain: Are you constipated? Do you go to the bathroom regularly? Do you see a bulge in your abdomen? This can be gas trapped in your bowels, but needs to be checked out, so see your doctor.

husband is 36. has moderatly sharp upper left abdominal pain. occurs when lying down. had severe gi upset 3 days last week. related? what could it be?

Probable reflux: Several possibilities. It sounds like it has not been long term.  No mention of injury so probably not spleen, onset with lying down indicates a high probability of esophageal reflux, possibly gastritis.  Since it seems to be recent onset (3 days) in a 36 year old man and the pain is now severe, he may have helicobacter pylori gastritis and peptic ulcer disease. .H. Pylori is felt to cause ulcers.
