Yes: But not right immediately after surgery. Please follow up with your surgeon and let him /her tell you when to resume normal activity. Early heavy activity may displace mesh or disrupt the repair.

Accepted Answer

No: The  defect in the abdominal wall necessitating hernia repair in the para umbilical area  is small.  With heavy and at least 2 layer suture repair especially if no mesh required, chance of disrupting suture line rare.  If this had been initiated during sexual activity severe pain as one or more sutures broke would have been readily noted.  More problems would have been noted in an inguinal repair.

Speak to surgeon: In general uncomplicated hernia  , 2  months is sufficient time to do all activities , in normal healing process collagen deposits in 3 wks , 8 wks is plenty of time if you have no other associated problems ,  but  speak to your surgeon .

: You are not going to treat the umbilical hernia and avoid surgery by any sexual position.  Losing weight will improve your chances for a succesful herina repair.

Not normal: Best to check in with your surgical team. Make a POST OPERATIVE appointment and take a friend/family with you to discuss the numbness. It should resolve and this is not considered normal. Be well.

Should be OK: If the scar has healed, sexual intercourse or masturbation should be OK after 2 wks. Just avoid undue pressure to the surgical area.

No: Once the repair has been incorporated into your tissue structure you are essentially normal. I wouldn't lose any sleep over self or partner sex.

: Localized inflammation after surgery can be a common occurance. So can localized temporary changes to surrounding tissues. Discuss these changes with your surgeon at a follow up appointment as they know exactly what the surgery involved and can follow the healing process.

Temporarily: The pain from hernia surgery is dependent on the location of the hernia and the method of repair.  Most hernia operations are performed as out-patient procedures, with people using narcotic pain medication for days rather than weeks.  Most people can return to a desk job within 1-2 weeks.
