Promote heart illnes: Cigarette smoking increases a person's metabolic rate in part by forcing the heart to beat faster. When a cigarette is inhaled, the smoker's heart may beat 10 to 20 times more per minute for a period of time. This causes extra stress on the heart and plays a role in heart disease, the most common cause of smoking-related death.

which should i focus on first: losing weight or quitting smoking? i am 100 lbs overweight and smoke two packs a day and feel overwhelmed by both.

Both: With that much excess in both areas you can focus on both, however you will likely need alot of support. Doctor, therapist, support groups. Perhaps you have an undiagnosed disorder like adhd for example which is causing you to self medicate with food and nicotine. You can do it but dont have to do it alone, and you dont have to be perfect in the process. You just have to remain willing.

had a colonoscopy 3 years ago and had 14 polyps, 2 were adenomas. had another colonoscopy 1 year ago and had 6 polyps. 1 was an adenoma. im losing weight now quit smoking and am eating healthy. is it possible for the amount of polyps to be even less?

: Yes you can develop more polyps which then must be removed. The goal is to be free of anymore polyps over the next 5 years. Follow the recommendations from your gastroenterologist as to when you should get  your colon check done next?. I would favor another Colonoscopy in 2-3 years time.

Probably not: I hope not because we wouldn't want to discourage anyone from smoking cessation ;-)
unless you just quit smoking and are coughing a lot, which does happen at first, then these symptoms are not likely to be related to your giving up smoking. If no better after self care for a couple weeks time then see your doctor. If you are coughing a lot then it could be due to that.

how can someone who has severe chronic bronchitis and coughs constantly continue smoking cigarettes?

Good question: If we knew the answer to this one we could help a whole lot more people.  Their addiction to the nicotine causes them to do something very harmful to their body.  They need help for this; unfortunately, they must first want help.  Work on this with love and kindness; with gentle  and frequent tags on scientific information and matters of the heart to try and bring them around.

is cancer anxiety a real thing? i feel like im losing weight when im not is this a sign of severe health anxiety?

: Sounds like you have a true emotional issue that could be handled, controlled, and potentially reversed.  Be proactive and deal with this ASAP.  Have seen success with cognitive-behavioral therapy, biofeedback, acupuncture, meditation, and regular aerobic exercise.  Pills work temporarily but are not the ultimate solution.

my husband is having severe chest pains. he just quit smoking 24 hours ago. he's 33 years old & in great shape. should i be worried?

Don't worry: But, support him. If he is more worried than you are used to - don't minimize his feelings and offer to take him to an urgent care or ER. He's not likely to be having a medical crisis - but middle aged men do have heart attacks. Again, it's not likely and would not be connected to quitting. It's more that he's having w/drawal efx and they can be hard. I'll write a breath suggestion in a comment.

Pot: Even if you consider pot to be a non-issue in terms of its use, you are smoking something and it will impact you breathing.  Also, as a young person w/a still developing brain it will impact that also.  Please see you doc to rule out/identify possible medical conditions, especially heart condition.  Peace and good health.

i'm having g severe lower back pain,& i urinate at least 20 or more times a day. i am losing weight & i'm constantly tired & the pain is dull &sharp p?

DR visit needed.: You need to be seen today, the frequent urination is many times a sign of urinary tract infection.

But the loss of weight makes your symptoms much more concerning.

You need to be seen now.

19 yr old f, woke up at 7 am with severe sharp/stabbing pain on left side of chest, lasted about 2-3 min, no other symptoms no drug use or smoking.

Sounds like chest: wall muscle spasm. If no other symptoms and it does not recur,you are fine. If it recurs,see your Dr.
