Good question: If we knew the answer to this one we could help a whole lot more people. Their addiction to the nicotine causes them to do something very harmful to their body. They need help for this; unfortunately, they must first want help. Work on this with love and kindness; with gentle and frequent tags on scientific information and matters of the heart to try and bring them around.

Needs to quit...: Smoking will cause airway inflammation to continue leading to more rapid progression of the chronic bronchitis as well as worsening symptoms over time. Chronic bronchitis cannot be cured but progression will be slower and sxs improved once the person quits smoking. The smoker's doctor can help with smoking cessation.
