Ear aches: Common causes of ear aches are wax, ext otitis, middle ear infections, serous otitis media, mastoiditis etc. Ear infections are due either to bacterial or fungal, rarely viral ( herpes zoster).

Appointment: I just saw your question. Hopefully you are feeling better and have seen your doctor. If not, you may take some tylenol (acetaminophen) or advil for some pain relief and then seek doctor's appointment. Take care.

Decongestant: See a medical doctor today, so that you can start with an anti-biotic if it is a bacterial infection. Also decongestants, like Iliadin nasal spray when you sit in the plane and decend. I would also use an anti inflammatory for the pain and inflammation.

i have a severe ear infection and using ciprodex  but it seems to not get better?

Only works if...: Ciprodex can only work for an ear infection if it is an outer ear infection (in the ear canal), if your eardrum perforated, or if you have ear tubes in. Otherwise the topical drops can't penetrate into the area of the infection if it's in the middle ear. Even with those things, you may need an oral antibiotic as well. Call your doc back and ask.

husband gets severe ear infection every 3 months in same ear. so severe his ear swells shut and causes him a lot of pain. what could be causing this?

Otitis externa: The fact that you tell me that his ear swells up makes me think this is an external canal infection, as opposed to a middle ear infection. This is caused by bacteria invading the external ear canal ( like a swimmers ear). He can try putting white vinegar in his ear once to twice daily for prevention of these infections.

Severe ear infection: is commonly treated with medications to reduce pain, decongest the nose, thin secretions and treat infection (if bacterial).

Probably wrong anti: Biotic. Antibiotics are prescribed empirically (what is the most likely organism and what is most likely to kill it). Sometimes we guess wrong, as seems to be in your case, and we have to change the med. see your doc tomorrow.

48 hrs : at least , for  the antibiotic to act , but in meanwhile csn take ibugesic for pain .

just found out i have severe ear infections. my left ear is worse and has swoshing sounds. how can i stop this? also can this infection affect vision?

Add a Decongestant: What medication are you on? If you have not been taking a decongestant, you could use one - it could help. 
You could also try to gentle auto insufflation (pinch the nose while gently exhaling, forcing air back through the eustachian tube and repressurizing the ear). Ear infections should not cause you to have any vision problems. It may be sinus related or due to something else.

Call the doctor back: An ear infection inside of the eardrum is a "middle ear" infection and can start when a person gets congestion from allergies, colds, or sinusitis.  An ear infection outside of the eardrum is an "outer ear" infection which is caused by moisture in the outer ear canal that allows skin germs to grow and multiply in the skin. If unsure of the doctor's treatment instructions, call the doctor back.
