Get checked: Are you treating the reflux? Heartburn that persists despite treatment warrant an endoscopy to rule out infection and other potential causes such as malignancy.

Hiatal hernia & GERD: An upper endoscopy can reveal a hiatal hernia which may be readily amendable to surgical correction via nissen fundoplication. An upper GI study, ct scan & ultrasound may or may not be needed as egd is usually capable of identifying hiatal hernia. Endoscopic hiatal hernia repair is another procedure one can consider for this problem. H. Pylori should be tested for and eradicated.

Mastic Gum: If you have GERD, Mastic Gum (available in a health food store) should help.  1,000 mg per day for at least two weeks.  That should eradicate H. pylori, the spirochete that causes GERD, ulcers, and stomach cancer.  Mastic gum also heals gastric and duodenal ulcers.

GERD: all of the medications have some side effects, usually mild. I would probably recommend  starting with Omeprazole over the counter. I would be glad to advise by consult if further help is needed

i have chronic gastritis. after several endoscopies, i had it 4/6 times. no h.plyori, but am on chornic ppi use. over 7 years. im 29 now and worry. what are chances of me getting cancer? no family history, but have severe gerd so cant get off ppi?

: Chronic gastritis is rarely a cause of stomach cancer. I'm sure your gastroenterologist has given you dietary advice. Abstain from alcohol,caffeine, nicotine,aspirin &amp; antiinflammatory meds like ibuprofen or naproxen. Be sure to take the form of vit B12 that dissolves under your tongue while you're taking longterm ppi medication which prevents the stomach from absorbing vit B12 from foods.

Studies have shown: That the differential diagnosis of heartburn symptoms is quite broad, but according to Dr. Harmon and others in Therapeutic Advances in Gastroenterology,  there are five major causes:
Medications, functional dyspepsia, GERD, peptic ulcer disease, and cancer.

GERD: Many antibiotics do come in injectable forms.  However, if your heartburn is that severe, I would encourage you to speak with your provider.  If not already done, you would benefit from an upper endoscopy to see what's going on in the upper GI tract.  You might also need twice daily PPI for a period of time.  You should have this checked.

Gastroenterologist: He may be dealing with an irritable bowel syndrome as well as gerd. Have him consult a gastroenterologist for evaluation, diagnosis and proper treatment including dietary advice as well as avoiding alcohol, caffeine,nicotine and harsh roughage. In the meantime start him on prilosec or 
zantac daily until he is examined.

Timing : How are you taking the omeprazole? It should be taken on an empty stomach with nothing to eat or drink for at least 30 minutes after. If you aren't taking it this way that can reduce to the effectiveness. Otherwise, you may need to see your doctor or a gastroenterologist.
