Keep in mouth: Was it just around your lips or did you spread it on your face?  If you spread it on your face, it's more of an irritation.  Toothpaste should only be used in your mouth and not on your face.

can i use 2 different brand toothpastes? can i use sensodyne whitening toothpaste with colgate toothpaste? i hear the colgate whitening is abrasive.

Yes: Yes you can but it does not make much sense to me. Pick one and stay with it.

Yes: Try it ; see.  I personally use it ; it works.  Recommend it to my patients all the time.

Pain Active decay: I would check with your dentist to see if the cause of the pain is something other than what sensodyne is designed to treat. I have not heard of sensodyne causing pain in patients that are using it to treat sensative gumline areas on the teeth.

: They are all approved for usage for adults seniors and youths. The Sensodyne for sensitive teeth, and the others for normal usage and depending on the labeled brand for prevention of gum disease. As a senior proper brushing after eating and a good oral hygiene protocol will maintain your teeth in a healthy condition.

A few weeks: Do not expect immediate relief. It takes time for the medication to be absorbed into the outer layers of the cementum and to desensitize the teeth. Are you sure that there are no cavities? The toothpaste will not desensitize a tooth with carious lesions.

You will know: You will know if it does.  It probably won't, but if it does buy a new tube and store it in the warmest part of the  refrigerator, top shelf on the door.

hello doctors. my dentist told me to use sensodyne toothpaste for a sensitivity issue. just in case i want to switch, is it safe to use sensodyne toothpaste in the future as my new "regular daily toothpaste," or only use it when told by the dentist?

Daily ok: The question remains, however, why are your teeth sensitive. Often this occurs when there is loss of supporting bone and concomitant gum recession. As this can be progressive, you would be well served to see a gum/bone specialist, a Periodontist.
