i've been sick for 2 weeks with bronchitis & today i went to my pulmonologist (i have asthma), who gave me performist & budesonide for my nebulizer in place of my advair. is there any side effects?

See an asthma: Specialist and an ENT specialist, your doctor is trying to help control your asthma, given that you are reporting vocal cords problems with ICS. Preforomist isn't recommended for long term asthma control

Yes: Side effects of a saline enema may include bloating, abd pain, nausea, vomiting, dizziness or headache.  Consult with a doctor before initiating any treatment.

Accepted Answer

Maybe: First you have to figure out why and where he is coughing from. Is he suffering from a pneumonia, or a bronchiolitis, or asthma, or a post-nasal drip cough. You can do this in colaboration with his doc. If you just want to moisten his nasal passages make sure you're not giving him an antihistamine; that dries up the airways.

is it ok to use plain saline in a nebulizer to help my 4 year-old with nighttime coughing. she doesn't have coughs during day only when lying down. ?

Yes..ok to use: Basically the same as using saline drops into the nose, only it is in vapor form. You can also just put some clean tap water..An alternative is get an ultrasonic humidifier which can run for many hours instead of just few minutes with nebulizer.
If coughing is persistent, have her evaluated for possible nocturnal asthma etc...

can i use optical sterile normal saline drop solution in mixing vebtolin nebulous 2.5mg for a 4yrs old kid inside a nebulizer or would water be better?

Accepted Answer

Not advised: Optical sterile normal saline could have preservatives in it that should not be inhaled with the nebulized medication.  The company that sells the respirator provides normal saline to be used for mixing.  Water is not the same as saline and may be harsh compared to saline. Mgt: For an infant nasal saline  to keep the passages clear is important. If there is a history of asthma, please use the salbutamol. If you are treating bronchiolitis saline can help relieve symptoms.

I would see a Dr.: My concern is that your child may have some breathing issues. I would get your child examined with a doctor for thorough history and physical. I would not recommend any nebulizer treatments unless already prescribed by your doctor.

can i use duolin to nebulize my 6 year old child of mixed with saline? i read its only for 12 years and older. hes been diagnosed with croup.

Doctor can evaluate: One's doctor can confirm whether or not it is croup. Treatments croup are moist air, corticosteroids, and nebulized epinephrine, but Duolin (ipratropium and salbutamol) is not a usual croup treatment. The anti-inflammatory action of corticosteroids reduces voice box tissue edema. A 6 year-old crouper likely had croup in years past, and his doctor might use the same meds now if the same disease.
