is it safe to gently throw my baby in the air and catch her?

Accepted Answer

No: It is not safe to throw a child in the air and catch them. The vertebral blood vessels are fragile and when they come down as you catch them it causes a small snap in the neck that can tear these vessels. It is fine to lift them in the air to give that buoyant sensation as long as you do not release the child. Be aware of any head snapping back.

do all babies throw up after coughing?

Yes: Infants and young children throw up after coughing so frequently that we have a medical term for it: post-tussive emesis.  You don't need to see your doctor just because your child vomits a little bit of phlegm after coughing, but if you think he's having difficulty breathing, if he turns blue (not red) when coughing or if he passes out after coughing he definitely needs to be seen by a physician.

i washed husband's shirt with my babies clothes. he had left a ginseng pill in his pocket and broke open. do i need to throw my babies clothes away?

Not necessarily: Your baby's clothes should be fine to wear after they have been laundered again.

Minor difference: Most milk-based infant formulas are essentially the same, although different companies will sometimes make very minor changes such as a different amount of calcium.  There are some formulas which are designed to be easier to digest, and some babies with acid reflux have less spitting with these formulas. Powder vs ready-to-feed can make a difference, too.

we changed my 2 week old babies formula milk 3 days ago because he was getting cramps but the new formula makes him throw up almost after every bottel. what can we do?

Evaluation: There are many causes of vomiting at this age. The baby should be examined and an anatomic cause ruled out. Mild spit ups with feeds may require smaller more frequent feedings, feeding at an angle of 30 degrees or more, slower feeds, burping mid and after the feeding. Please follow up with your pediatrician.

at what age can i throw my baby up in the air &catch her again without it being dangerous, my mom did it to her when she was 1 1/2 months, i got scared?

At any age: My concern is would you want your baby to hit the ground at any age?  A baby does not have the ability to protect themself from the force of the fall.   Do you really want to take the chance that you might not catch her?

Smallpox: Take the child to another house or isolate the person with small pox. The spread of the disease is from fluid of the pox themselves.And the disease spread very slowly.

my baby 10 wk flexes his body after every feed and slightly throws up after flexing. why does he do this? how can we help him stop such flexing?

Get evaluation NOW: This sort of posturing suggests pain. This needs immediate evaluation and a workup for GI obstruction such as pyloric stenosis or other obstructive causes.

Depends....: On how long ago you pumped it.   Breast milk stored in a deep freeze can be used for up to six months.  Once it's defrosted, treat it like you would any other milk;  don't leave it out too long, keep it refrigerated, and use it as quickly as possible.

Several possibilites: See your baby's doctor. There are a lot of unanswered questions here - how old is your baby?  Is your baby gaining weight/growing normally? Did this just start happening, or has it been going on for months? Bottom line is that you need to see your doc.
