Pain, swelling: Usually one has had an injury with a twisting
mechanism
you will typically be unable or have difficulty
weightbearing.
Usually there is a large knee effusion making
knee flexion difficult..
Obviously there would be fracture site pain
of a considerable amount.

This : This is basically an incomplete fracture. If it is at the level of the joint ot would indeed be an incomplete tibial plateau fracture.

Potentially: Yes potentially.  If you have osteoporosis, the bone can be weaker than normal and predispose you to a fracture.  Consider requesting a bone density test.  The other possibility is that it is a stress fracture.  This occurs when multiple small injuries occur beyond your ability to recover from each insult, as can happen in running extensive distances.  Discuss with your doctor.

Big injury:Good luck: Plateau fx can be complex. Each one has own personality, so may be better if you received specifics from your surgeon or therapist. Basic rom exercise is simple: the knee is a hinge and moves forward and backward. Any exercise that does that (hinges) will work. Sit on your bed, dangle your foot and try to raise your foot to straight in front, allow gravity to bend back . Can slide on floor also.

do small non displaced tibial plateau fractures need the knee immobilising? i didnt and have instability despite my acl reconstruction 3.5 months ago

Not usually: Tibial plateau (front of the bone at it's STRONGEST edge!  Shaped like a triangle the tibia plateau is the top "peak"... and this fracture generally heals without casting. The knee is usually  stable following such injuries. Hope this is helpful!

Osteoarthritis: Since these fractures involve a weight baering joint, there is a risk of developing arthritis over long term . Sometimes these injuries are associated with intra-articular meniscal or cruciate or chondral tears.
