Some basics: RSV is a worrisome infection to small infants whose tiny airways  plug easily with mucus.A 3 yo is at little risk when they do get it because their lungs have bigger airways. At that age they essentially get a cold. Meds are seldom helpful. Treatment is supportive &amp; focuses on comfort.If the kid feeds poorly/won't play have him seen.They do get secondary infections in the ears/lungs occasionally

RSV infection: None of these are useful and in fact can be harmful for a young infant. Whatever you do or not, cough from RSV infection in an infant lasts several weeks. You can use saline nasal sprays with bulb suction for blocked noses.

Chronic cough in bab: Not usually children with rsvp usually wheeze and have chest retraction. He may have a drippy nose that is causing the cough or an anomaly of the upper airway talk to your pediatrician.

Hang in there!: We usually try albuterol treatments for RSV in babies. About one third of babies respond.  As long as she is not spiking a fever now and her breathing is stable, she has 3 wet diapers daily,  hang in there another week.   Start to finish, this is a month long illness! Keep all your followup appointments with her pediatrician.  I'm glad she's doing well at home! You are doing a great job!

Saline: You can add some normal saline infant nose drops with a bulb syringe to clear her nostrils. I am glad to hear the cough and lower respiratory issues are decreasing, she is on the road to recovery. Also, give her extra fluids, pedialyte.

Robitussin (guaifenesin): You can take it during breasfeeding but it has no impact on the possibility of your child contracting rsv.

RSV: Symptoms include respiratory distress due to rapid, labored breathing and wheezing. Nasal flaring is also present. Fever may or may not be present.

RSV immunity: Definitely! there are many strains of RSV and developing immunity to one will not necessarily protect against others. Even receiving synagis (palivizumab) which is pooled antibodies against RSV can't completely eliminate the risk of rsv. Immunity they do have also tends to wane over several months.
The good news is that most RSV infections do not result in hospitalization and act like a simple cold.

Depends: Typically the symptoms of RSV peak after the first few days before getting better. Usually infants improve somewhere between 5-10 days; however this can vary widely, and it is not uncommon for the cough and wheeze to last several weeks after the initial symptoms began.

Supportive care: Rsv is a virus that causes lots of congestion in the nose and lungs. Infants with RSV require frequent nasal suctioning with a bulb syringe and nasal saline. They also benefit from fluids (breastmilk, pedialyte, or formula), humidifier in their room, acemtaminophen or Ibuprofen for fever, and sleeping in an upright position (30 degree angle in crib or being held by an adult).
