my 2 year old son has roseola. i am 35+ weeks pregnant and havent had roseola. are there any risks to the pregnancy or baby?

Generally no: Chances are you  may have had roseola in infancy and never had it labeled as many do.  But if you get it this late in pregnancy it is not known to be a significant problem for the fetus. I have never heard of or seen a case in an adult, but the references I have think things should be okay.

Yes: When saying "catch", you would need to be more specific. As far as being a carrier,  yes, they can, unless they had as a child. As far as having symptoms of it, much less likely, as it is common in children and adults have probably had it even if it was not diagnosed as such.

Probably not: Encephalitis is associated with confusion, altered mental status. Do you have these? If not, then it's probably not encephalitis.

: Roseola is very rare in adults. It manifests as a high fever and pink rash. Stomach pains are not associated with roseola in adults. You should be seen by your Dr to determine what exactly you have. Another illness, that can cause fever, sore throat and rash is streptococcal infection. Because it is a bacterial infection, it can be treated with antibiotics.

No: Roseola is almost always a harmless viral illness also called 6th disease. It affects children up to 2 years of age, causing fever and a rash. The illness lasts about 1 week without sequelae. It occasionally affects adults also but is also a mild infection in them.

Dx by Hx & exam: I don't recall ever needing or doing a "test" for roseola. It is a minor illness that is common & distinctive in its features.Most will label the process when enough features present, which often takes a few days. In a research setting, blood tests obtained at the time of first fever & 2-4 weeks later will document rise in antibody production to the virus.
