Ok: I can just tell you that if your spine truly seperated from your head, you would be dead; essentially because you would be paralyzed and unable to breathe.  But you could have very well sustained a serious injury, and if you are concerned and/or in severe pain I would tell you to be seen and thoroughly evaluated.

lately i have been having a problem. for a while now i have had a problem with jerking my head and/or shoulders. when this happens i normally get a chill down my spine. all these problems i'm dealing with are painless. can someone help me?

Doctor can evaluate: One who makes repeated twitches, jerks, noises, or rolls his eyes, may have tics, which are exaggerated habits. Of course, she might have a tight muscle or some irritation in the neck or shoulders that "encourage" tics to continue because irritation makes her sense there is some discomfort. Her primary care doctor can do a full exam to see what the diagnosis and next step may be.

You need to get help: Patients with suspected or possible cervical spine injury must have their cervical spine properly immobilized until formal evaluation can be performed. Secondary injury can and does occur if cervical spine is not immobilized appropriately, or done with the wrong technique. In case of an emergency, don't re-position head,  it's best to call 911 & await trained experts to perform the immobilization.
