Anti fungal cream: If there is a single lesion u can use anti fungal cream like LOTRIMIN (clotrimazole) which is over the counter and u need to gently massage it in. If there are  multiple lesions then u may want to see a dermatologist to get oral antifungal medications. Scalp ringworms are difficult to treat locally.  Both have to be used for a prolonged period with the cream to be used for at least 4-6 weeks.

Oral anti fungal : Ringworm of the scalp is not effectively treated with shampoos or topical medications.  Oral medications are usually required for several weeks.

No: Head & shoulders does not contain any anti-fungal medication, which is what ringworm is. You need treatment with an antifungal cream, and if the ringworm is on scalp, you may well need oral anti-fungal medication, as scalp ringworm can be very resistant to topical treatment.

A little bit: His pediatrician can evaluate and may refer to a dermatologist. If truly scalp ringworm, a patient would need oral antifungal medication. As long as a child's doctor is monitoring the child's progress and rechecking him every so often during treatment, drug side effects are not expected. With children, doctors usually double-check the dosing to be sure it is correct for each child's weight.
